These two paintings were inspired by a pair of collared doves who live in a tall tree just outside my home. I’ve watched them for years — side by side through every season. In winter, they huddle against the rain; in summer, they rest in the dappled shade of the leaves. They visit our bird table together, rarely straying far from one another.

Though they are almost always seen as a pair, I chose to paint them on separate canvases to honour their individuality. Quiet Watcher captures the still, observant nature of one, while Early Light reflects the lighter, more open presence of the other. Each piece stands alone, but together, they tell a quiet story of companionship, presence, and the small, enduring rituals of the natural world.
